Glossary

Enlightened foundation
18th-century Spanish urban planning model consisting of the ex novo creation of rural populations with regular geometric plan, hygienic facilities and fiscal privileges, financed by the Crown or by the enlightened nobility. Almacelles (1773), La Carolina (1767) and Encinas Reales (1768) are examples of the model.
