Glossary

Anthroponym
A personal name, often used as the base of toponyms (Lucronius → Logroño, Sigerici → Castrojeriz, Sacavus → Sacavém).
Pre-Roman
Prior to the Romanisation of the Iberian peninsula (3rd century BC); applied to toponyms, linguistic roots and populations.
Saint Orosia
Legendary Christian saint of the Aragonese Pyrenees, supposed Bohemian princess ('Orosia') martyred by Muslims during the invasion of 714 near Yebra de Basa. Her cult, documented from the 12th century, spread through the diocese of Jaca and became patroness protector against storms and diabolical possessions. The 25 June pilgrimage to the rupestrian sanctuary is one of the great traditional religious manifestations of the Pyrenees.
