Arabism derived from Andalusian al-Yākī, anthroponym applied to the Muslim lineage of the place during the Nasrid phase.
Town of the Cordovan Subbética, reconquered in 1240 by Ferdinand III. The Gothic-Mudéjar 14th-century castle of Luque preserves the pentagonal keep.
