Reflections, to the letter
Cedeira is 'the salting factory', from the Latin cetaria, from cetus, the large fish: a Roman name for the installations where fish was salted on the coast. That it does not survive as a common word betrays its age —the documents of the year 830 already write in Cetaria—. It remains a fishing port, and the gateway to the Serra da Capelada and to San Andrés de Teixido, the second shrine of Galicia. A toponym that has smelled of the sea for two thousand years.
